Titanic is 100% one of our favourite films of all time. The romance. The glamour. The Leonardo DiCaprio-ness of it all.
So you can see why Adele might want to have a Titanic-themed party to celebrate her 30th. But not everyone thinks it was such a good idea.
Adele dressed up as Rose for the event, and posted a number of photos from the shindig on her Instagram. There was a snap of Adele at the top of those famous stairs and a photo of her getting out of an old-fashioned car.
Dirty 30! I’m not sure what I’m going to do for the next 30 years as I’ve been blessed beyond words in my life so far. Thank you to everyone for coming along for the ride the last 11 years with me. My family and friends for entertaining my super fandom of the Titanic movie. Last night was the best night of my life. Here’s a couple pics. I’m absolutely fucked, not sure I’ll make it out the house again! Ps Childish Gambino how the hell do you have time to offer us so much greatness on so many platforms. I adore you x
But it was the picture of her and her party guests dancing in life jackets that hit a nerve with a few people on Twitter. They have criticised the singer for being insensitive to the thousands of people who lost their lives when the Titanic hit an iceberg and sank in 1912.
One person wrote: “Isn’t this kinda/very inappropriate? Adele’s Titanic-themed birthday party had them dancing in life jackets… Thousands of people actually died.”
Another tweeted: “Why is everyone loving that Adele had a TITANIC themed party??? Are we forgetting that it actually happened??? People actually died on there. [Is it] just me who can’t see how it’s even remotely amusing to give people life jackets at a party when people genuinely lost their lives? Lol”
And a third added: “#Adele Very poor taste party for your 30th! Did your parents not teach you that 1500 men, women and children died on the Titanic? Who finds that fun? No respect for you at all!”
