Many of us might be focused on enjoying the rest of summer, but the countdown to Christmas is officially on at one famous retailer.
Selfridges in London has become the first department store in the world to open its festive shop, a full 147 days before Christmas Day.
Father Christmas was on hand to launch the shop on Monday, which features London-inspired decorations and stocking-fillers based on this year’s theme entitled ‘With Love From’.
The full Christmas range will be in stock from September 4, when over 130,000 products across the decoration range will go on sale. This is set to include over 51,000 baubles, over 750 different cards and wrapping paper varieties plus 80 types of Christmas crackers.
And there’s good news for foodies. For the first time, Selfridges will be launching a collection of some of its greatest Christmas food hits on Friday, August 4. The store usually launches its Christmas food selection in October, but this year, popular items like the Selfridges Selection Christmas pudding, the Festive Fruit cake and Eggnog Curd will be on offer for five months rather than 10 weeks.
The department store says it hopes the early arrival of its Christmas products will appeal to summer tourists in the capital. “We have so many customers visiting from all over the world, eager to snap up festive decorations and souvenirs on their London summer holidays which they can’t buy at home,” Eleanor Gregory, Selfridges Christmas & Home Buyer said. “So, we make sure we’re ready to showcase Christmas decorations they will truly treasure… This new extension to our usual offer is simply addressing this growing demand for convenience Christmas shopping outside the traditional Christmas season from many of our customers.”
