We’re pretty sure this isn’t just an elaborate April Fools’ prank…
Starting this weekend, it’ll cost a bit more to park on the street in downtown Winnipeg.
Sunday (April 1st) parking rates downtown will spike by $1.50. That pushes the rate for high-demand areas up to $3.50/hour.
This spring, on-street parking rates will be increasing by $1.50. This change will take approx 6-8 eight weeks to fully implement beginning April 1, 2018 because each individual pay station needs to be reprogrammed manually. Learn more: https://t.co/H6TMsM4Anj pic.twitter.com/gvh7bQeeOf

If you happen to use the PayByPhone, it will take 6-8 weeks before the entire system is upgraded.
Same goes for the Pay Stations. If the rate has been adjusted, there will be a sign placed on the station with the new prices reflected.
The rate hike will include Monthly meters and the Scratch N Park booklets as well.
According to ChrisD.ca, the city will also be changing the “early payment discount for parking tickets from 50 percent to 25 percent of the fine.”
