Edmonton-based ride-sharing company TappCar announced it intends to launch in Winnipeg come March 1st.
The ride-sharing company will be the first of its kind launching in the city once its services become legal next week.
Uber and Lyft had previously expressed interest in serving Winnipeg, but both retracted their intention to operate once Manitoba Public Insurance (MPI) set out its mandated insurance premiums for drivers.
TappCar is already advertising jobs for drivers in Manitoba, stating its employees can make up to $5,000 per month.
Now, with TappCar Winnipeg’s taxi industry said it’s ready for the competition… Cab drivers said they’re working to improve their quality by cleaning taxis twice per shift instead of once, and wearing uniforms.
They’re also providing new training for drivers with the hope of improving communication skills with passengers.
