The Winnipeg Humane Society is calling on crafters to sew tiny curtains to help stressed-out cats.
These blinds are used for a variety of reasons:
– For giving shy/nervous cats a sense of security.
– To cover cats who have been treated for fleas and help prevent its spread.
– To offer a mom and her babies a reprieve from the hustle and bustle of the shelter.
The blinds should be made from thinner, but durable enough material to withstand repeated washing. The blinds measure 27 x 27 inches with an elastic loop and button at each corner.
If you aren’t a crafty person, but would like to help the cats you can donate the supplies to the shelter. We have some handy staff and volunteers who can put it together.
The changes are part of the Humane Society’s response to the Million Cat Challenge, an international initiative to save the lives of 1 million cats in shelters across North America by 2019.
Other changes include larger kennels — about double the usual size — and reduced adoption fees.
If you want to donate curtains, you can find more information on the Humane Society’s Facebook page (HERE).
