If you’re a fan of Christmas movies, then you’ve definitely watched “Home Alone” at least a handful of times. In honor of the upcoming holiday season, Lego is launching a brand new building kit that replicates the iconic McCallister family residence.
As fans know, the 1990 classic is about a rambunctious eight-year-old boy Kevin, played by Macaulay Culkin, who is accidentally left home alone by his family during Christmas vacation. On top of that, he also finds himself protecting his house from two burglars Harry, played by Joe Pesci, and Marv, played by Daniel Stern.
If it’s not already exciting enough to have our very own “Home Alone” inspired Lego set, the building kit was also fan-designed! The 21330 set is based on a design submitted to the Lego Ideas platform by 28-year-old Alex Storozhuk from Ukraine. It features an impressive 3,955 pieces — making it the largest set created from a LEGO Ideas concept.
“Just like every 90s kid, I grew up watching ‘Home Alone’ and it takes a very special place in my heart,” said Storozhuk. “I can’t even imagine holidays without it. This movie is very nostalgic and makes those warm childhood memories come up every time.”
The Lego Ideas “Home Alone” set is extremely recognizable and easily captures the large McCallister family home. It’s packed with details that tell the story of Kevin’s holiday adventure and both the exterior and interior of the house are true to the film. The set includes the ground and first floor, kitchen, basement and attic.
The kit features an opening mechanism that allows you to enjoy the whole house and the walls separate in the middle to open sideways and fully reveal the interior. Plus, the roof opens upwards.
Every room is filled with reminders of the movie, such as the after-shave cream from “The Scream” bathroom scene, Buzz’s pet tarantula, the robbers’ van, the paint cans used to knock them down and the treehouse with a zip-line. Other features include the fireplace, Christmas tree, a toy train, grandfather clock, dining table and record player.
The best part? The set comes complete with the main characters of the movie in LEGO mini-figure form, including; Kevin, robbers Harry and Marv, “Old Man” Marley and Kevin’s mom, Kate.
While the “Home Alone” LEGO kit is not yet available to be ordered, you can purchase it starting Nov. 1.
“Bringing Alex’s Home Alone house to life has been brilliant fun. He’d thought about every aspect, from the layout of the rooms to the use of color and of course the details from the movie to make it instantly recognizable,” Lego designer Antica Bracanov said. “Following the themes of the film, we wanted to make the experience as immersive as possible for fans of Lego building and the movie.”
This new “Home Alone” house set comes just weeks after the toy company unveiled it’s largest-ever set, a replica of the Titanic with 9,090 pieces.
