Cynthia “Plaster Caster” Albritton, was an artist who became famous for an unusual way she made her art. She passed away recently at 74 and was known for creating plaster casts of famous musicians’ penises! Quite the conversation piece, but what’s the story on how that came about? Cynthia was born in Chicago and her first mold was of Jimi Hendrix’s “package” and led to others like The Buzzcocks’ Pete Shelley (fitting band), MC5’s Wayne Kramer, and The Dead Kennedys’ Jello Biafra. Later on, Albritton included breasts in her plaster repertoire, making casts of bosoms belonging to The Yeah Yeah Yeahs’ Karen O, Peaches, Stereolab’s Laetitia Sadier, and The Mekons’ Sally Timms.
Below is a video with another famous “groupie”, Paula Des Barres, who wrote a book about her “conquests” and they talk about how it all came about and how Jimi’s “curlies” may still be in the mold because she forgot one key step!
Here’s a peek at Jimi’s!
