Have ya been tempted to run into a sunflower patch to get the perfect selfie? Sure, great for social media, not so great for the farmers field ya just trampled on. There’s a place in MacGregor where they want you to take a selfie with one of their yellow beauties and help raise money for Canadian Foodgrains Bank. It’s one of several fundraisers being put on by FOCUS (Feed Other Countries, Undo Starvation), a collective of farmers and volunteers between Austin and Elie who work to raise money for the foodgrains bank.
Dean Toews is the FOCUS chairperson and this is the second year they have done the #sunflowerselfie and have made changes to enhance the experience over last year. “We have a trail system that we worked into the fields so people can walk into the crops,” he says. “There’s areas in there for even if a group wants to take pictures in there. We have spaces inside the crops so you can be surrounded 360 degrees by sunflowers, and stay as long as you like.” Toews predicts the fundraiser will run for approximately three weeks as long as weather conditions remain ideal.

Excited to open up our Cfgb sunflower field again for public to enjoy. Same turn on rd 54 as last year but instead of going west turn east. Signs are up. Maybe 50% bloom this weekend but likely next will be much fuller. pic.twitter.com/8XjkKm82P0
