A Pumpkin Promise!
Homes decorated for a night of fright with cobwebs, ghosts, pumpkins and eerie sounding mummies, but there’s one house where the spooky pumpkins are huge and they are “magical” at helping to lift spirits and raising money CancerCare Manitoba. 39 Baisinger Drive in River Park South is where you can find The Pumpkin Promise, a celebration that has evolved out of a love for Halloween. Chris Okell and his mother Marietta began celebrating Halloween over 20 years ago in the most wonderful way. Marietta would decorate a space in the old Eaton’s building downtown and host inner city children to an evening of Halloween haunts and screams. Chris started the Pumpkin Promise to honour his mom, who passed in November 2010 from pancreatic cancer. This marks the 9th year and Chris has raised close to $40,000!!
