The 9th Annual Earl Cook Classic is back after a pandemic break. Throughout his battle with cancer, Earl never lost his fighting spirit and his lust for life. Earl was an inspiration to all that met him. He befriended NHL coach Mike Babcock, and was awarded the NHL Alumni Ace Bailey Award for Courage. He was also a regular visitor to the Winnipeg Blue Bomber dressing room. Unfortunately Earl lost his battle with cancer in September 2011 at the age of 23.
At the Earl Cook Classic youth-in/from-care participate in a game of hockey against their social workers, care providers, foster parents, and other adults in their lives. There’s also a short free skate time for those who don’t want to participate in the actual game. Had a chat w/ Jainna Cabral Program Coodinator w/ Voices: Manitoba’s Youth In Care Network about the event and the special man who was the inspired it all. To get involved call 204-982-4956 or email Jainna@voices.mb.ca
